Big Changes to Venturing

Sure, the Eagle Scout Award is rare, but consider this: Just 0.66 percent of Venturers earn any awards at all. Couple that with the lowest retention rate of any BSA program—53 percent—and you’ve got a recipe in need of new ingredients. Enter the new Venturing Road Map, which outlines the

program’s biggest evolution since it began 15 years ago. The biggest changes are the reinstatement of a national Venturing committee, training requirements, and a com- pletely new advancement system. Beginning in May 2014, Venturing will gradually

phase in new awards, and by December 2014 the existing Bronze, Gold, and Silver awards will disappear entirely. In their place, new awards, with names not yet determined, will focus on Adventure, Leadership, Service, and Personal Growth. Look for more details in the coming

months, and stay informed about the latest changes by liking the Venturing Facebook page, facebook.com/VenturingBSA.
