Online Leadership Tools, Retooled

“We wanted to do more than just replace the old system. We wanted to give leaders and vol- unteers the tools they need to do their jobs better and make it less time-consuming,” says Alma Redmon, BSA change management specialist. And that’s just what

leaders and volunteers are seeing as they access the new tools at my.Scouting.org, which greatly simplify many tasks. Scouters have been able

to update their personal infor- mation online since 2012. “But we didn’t know how to reach unit leaders except through their councils, so we relied on

word of mouth,” Redmon says. Then, last year, came what she calls “an aha moment” in the effectiveness of the new tools. Now the my.ScoutingTools

dashboard allows leaders to truly manage their units online. Among other things, unit leaders and district Key 3 can:

 View dashboard status of Trained Leaders and Youth Protection Training and counts Print district roundtable report “exceptions” of those who are not position-trained Add adult training information for members in their organization structure

Search and view a member’s training history and YPT status Print membership cards; training certificates; Trained Leaders Report; and Youth Protection Aging Reports that list those who have not taken YPT, those whose YPT has expired, and those whose YPT will expire in 30, 60 and 90 days In addition, any registered

volunteer can update his or her profile information, including changes in educa- tion, employer, civic and professional associations, etc., and view his or her personal training history. “It’s just so much more

impactful,” Redmon says. “We’ve seen so many councils and unit leaders acting quickly as a result of these new tools.” Contact myscouting@
